      • Scroll through the alphabetical list and select the region you are in.
  • Important: Using the ZIP code will provide the most accurate tax rate, as tax regions can be large.

Understanding South Carolina's Maximum (Max) Tax

Exemptions and the Infrastructure Maintenance Fee (IMF)

IMF Exemption:

  • Items subject to the Infrastructure Maintenance Fee (IMF) are exempt from the Max Tax.
  • The IMF is reported and paid to the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV).
